Reading at the UAG

The rumors are true. I’ll be reading at the UAG gallery on the last Friday in February, as part of Albany Poets‘ Fridays @ the UAG series. You should come. This isn’t an open-mic, just a reading with two features: me, and Margot Lynch, a woman I don’t think I’ve met before. Here are the details:

Friday, February 27, 2009 – 7pm
Albany Poets Presents: Fridays @ the UAG
Matt Galletta
Margot Lynch

UAG Gallery
247 Lark Street
Albany NY 12210

It should be fun. The UAG is a nice venue for readings. And when it’s over, we can get a drink.

Reading in February…maybe?

It isn’t entirely confirmed, but I possibly have a reading coming up the end of next month. Last I heard, the powers-that-be were still figuring out the schedule and such, but if it all works out I’ll be reading at the UAG in February for the series run jointly by Albany Poets and Jawbone.

If you’ve never been to one of these, you should go. It’s a pretty cool series. No open mic, just two featured poets: usually one “community” poet and one “academic” poet (whatever those words might mean to you). They have it at the Upstate Artists Guild art gallery in downtown Albany, on the second and fourth Fridays of the month.

As I said, this isn’t set in stone, so you didn’t hear it from me (Mary Panza might hurt me). Check back here in a while, or at the Albany Poets website or the UAG website for more information.

But keep your schedule clear for the last Friday in February. You know. Just in case.

Thank you

Thanks to everybody who came out to the reading last night. I had a good time. Hopefully I wasn’t too boring, and didn’t scare too many of the Sienna students that came with their prof.

Also, my apologies to the man I hit in the head when I threw a crumpled up poem out into the audience. I was just being a Radical Poet, and didn’t mean anyone harm.

This Thursday

Just a reminder that I’ll be reading this Thursday at the Social Justice Center. Hope people come out. It’ll be me, plus an open mic before and after. Then, when it’s all over, we go to the bar. Sound good? Here are all the details one last time:

Third Thursday Poetry Open-Mic
November 20, 2008
7:30 pm

Social Justice Center
33 Central Ave.
Albany, NY 12210

Your host: Dan Wilcox

Reading in November

It looks like the Albany poetry scene is once again scraping the bottom of the barrel, because I’m doing a featured reading at an upcoming open-mic night. It’s similar to the one I did back in January: an open-mic for all, plus a featured reader (namely, me) who does 15-20 minutes of stuff. Please come. Here’s all the info:

I hope people can make it out to this one. I plan on reading new stuff. Maybe there will be door prizes. Who knows.

Thank you to everybody who came to the Live from the Living Room reading last night. I had a great time; hopefully it wasn’t too painful for the rest of you.

Live from the Living Room

Reminder: I’ll be the featured reader at the Live from the Living Room open-mic this coming Wednesday. The important info:

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 – 7pm.
Capital District Gay & Lesbian Community Center
332 Hudson Ave.
Albany, NY 12210

Hosted by Don Levy. Bring friends. There will be door prizes, and maybe a pony ride.

It looks like there won’t be a second reading next week, however. Rumor has it the venue doesn’t want to do an open-mic night anymore. So now GallettaFest is a one-night-only event. Be there!

Mark your calendars

This coming January is going to be referred to from now on as GallettaFest 2008. I’ve been invited to be the featured reader at not one, but two open-mic nights in the Albany area. Here are the details…

First one up:

Wednesday, January 9, 2008
Live at the Living Room Open-Mic
Capital District Gay & Lesbian Community Center
332 Hudson Ave.
Albany, NY

Hosted by Don Levy. Open-Mic sign-up at 7pm, reading starts around 7:30.

And then, one week later:

Wednesday, January 16, 2008
Zounds! Night Sky Cafe Open-Mic
Night Sky Cafe
402 Union St.
Schenectady, NY

Hosted by Shaun Baxter. 7:30pm.

You should come to both of these. I promise to try to be non-boring.

I’m in the new issue of OTHER:, the lit mag put out by the people at Albany Poets. You can read some of the magazine at the site, but if you want a hard-copy, you’re going to have to come to the “release party” this Tuesday at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave., Albany). Show up around 7:30pm. There will be an open-mic. And copies of OTHER:EIGHT for the taking. And beer. Don’t forget the beer.
