Holy overpriced chapbook, Batman!

I was on Amazon the other day and was looking at the page for Shorter Than Fiction, the chapbook John and I put out a couple years ago. Remember that one? It’s still around.

The reason I mention it is because Amazon isn’t the only one selling it. It is also for sale from some third-party seller. For $25. I repeat, $25.

Keep in mind that this isn’t some rare, out-of-print book. It’s still for sale like any other book on Amazon. It even qualifies for their free shipping deal.

Oh, and it’s $7, which I already thought was kinda steep. In fact, I’ve always given the books out for nothing at readings, and the offer still stands that if you actually want a copy of it (or the newer one, Lemons), let me know and I’ll just mail you one.

So I was a little taken aback by the $25 price tag this sketchy bookseller is putting on it. But then I realized, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the book is worth that much. Maybe this seller read it and recognized the brilliance behind it, the shining literary genius John and I both possess, and are charging what they think it’s truly worth.

So: Thank you, to the people behind the “any-book” seller on Amazon. You are not sketchy or weird or greedy, as I may have once thought. Rather, you are true arbiters of good taste. Your belief in me is inspiring.

The Love of a Sleeper

sleeper-smI don’t normally do book recommendations or things like that (hey, this blog is supposed to be all about me, right? Me!), but I’ll pause the self-indulgence for a minute and tell you to buy a copy of The Love of a Sleeper by Adam Penna.

It’s a poetry chapbook published by Finishing Line Press, and is available from them on amazon as well as their own site.

The poems in the collection are mostly quiet and introspective, but moving (more so, at least to me, than a lot of what I’ve been reading lately). One of my favorites right now is “On Finding My Hair in the Drain,” with lines like “I didn’t think of death right away either. / Rather, I thought of riding buses / and being anonymous everywhere I went.” I could go on, but you should check it out for yourself.

In the interest of full disclosure: I’ve known Penna for years now. He’s a great guy. He runs Best Poem, a blog-style lit journal that seeks to publish, “not necessarily every day, a poet’s best poem.” Way back, almost a year ago, I had a poem published there.

And now for something completely different

This will only interest a select few people, I imagine. You might know my friend John Ferraro. Good guy. Best man at my wedding. We put a book together once. He used to have a website too, until he took it down, which I thought was a silly thing to do. I even posted on this blog about it, but he still didn’t bring it back. So I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I present you www.LOLJOHNS.com. Now John can once again have a web presence (and possibly become an internet phenomenon). If you’re not familiar with the humor, you might want to check here as a point of reference.

You’re welcome, John.

John, Twitter, Oregon Trail

We all know John Ferraro. Kinda like me, only not as cool. Well, John used to have a site of his own, at www.johnferraro.com. He used to have poems up there, which I liked very much, and pictures, and stuff like that. Then, just recently, he took all that down. Now there’s just a message saying:

Hello.
I have decided that I will no longer maintain this site.

I asked him why he took his site down, and he gave some long-winded answer that I didn’t really listen to. So…here’s what I’d like to do: If you know John, or even if you don’t, why don’t you email him and tell him to put his site back up. Give whatever reason you’d like. Tell him he’s not cool unless he has his own site. Tell him by taking down his site, he’s just letting the terrorists win. Tell him you liked his poems, even.

*

In other news, I set up a Twitter account for myself. I’m still not sure what the purpose of it is, but it’s there. Basically, it seems that Twitter is like a blog, but even more trivial.

*

And in yet more news, I’m thinking about changing the Oregon Trail theme of the site. Not sure what it should look like, but it’s been like this long enough. I’m open to ideas.

Shorter Than Fiction

Shorter Than Fiction

If you were at the Live From The Living Room open-mic in January, then you probably got a copy of the split-chapbook John Ferraro and I put together called Shorter Than Fiction. If not, then here’s your chance. It’s now available for purchase online, believe it or not.

Alternately, I still have a few copies left over from the reading, so you can always email me for one, if you prefer that personal touch.

Tommy’s site, and East Asians

After four months of inaction, here’s a half-assed update. My friend Tommy has a website now. You can check it out on the Links page.

In other news, some odd people in the East Asia area (according to their IP addresses) seem to have found my blog. Greetings! Thank you for the random comments on past blog entries. But honestly, as many times as you say “Great site! :-) ”, it’s really not in good form to post links to “free porn”. I mean, this is a family blog. Please keep your free East Asian porn to yourselves. Thanks.

I moved

I’m back after a several month lapse of updates. My excuse: I’ve moved from Long Island to Albany. What I learned: I own too many things. Heavy things in particular. Albany seems pretty fun so far. If you happen to live in Albany and know of interesting things happening, let me know.
Anyway, I have new stuff up now. A couple poems, and a new (at least, new to you) section from that novella I was talking about last time. This particular section doesn’t have a name, but it’s the first chapter from the novella. The whole thing’s called “Weekend Campers.” I finished writing it a while ago, but I’m still playing around with the project and getting feedback from people. I expect to be completely finished with it by January of 2084.
Oh, and John bought expensive website-building software and updated his site. Go check it out. The link’s on the “Other” section of this site.
