I examine things

examiner-xLast month or so, I started writing a column of sorts for examiner.com, this news and entertainment website. I’m still not entirely sure what the point of it is, but I thought I’d link to it anyway.

I’m the official “Albany Literary Scene Examiner” (as they say, that and $2 will buy me a cup of coffee). I’ve been posting short articles and notices about upcoming readings and events in the area, and other news like that.

If you live in the Albany area and want to find out about all things literary in the region, you might find it useful. If you like clicking on sponsored ads, then you’ll definitely like it.

Albany Word Fest

wordfest_ad

This coming Friday is the 2009 Albany Word Fest, hosted by Albany Poets. It’s an annual event held every April.

Part of this year’s Word Fest is a 12-hour long open mic held at the UAG Gallery on Lark. It starts at 7pm Friday night, ends 7am Saturday morning. Each reader gets 10-15 minutes. The sign-up is available online. I procrastinated on signing up, and then got talked into the 2:00-2:15am slot. Yeah, two in the morning. So if you’re crazy, stop by. I’ll be there.

Thanks

Thanks to everybody who came out for the reading on Friday. Thanks also to Albany Poets, and to Margot. I enjoyed myself. I don’t know this for sure, but Albany Poets may put up the video from that night, in case you missed it, or just want to watch it over and over and over again, every single day.

Speaking of which, thanks to the stalkers that brought me a cake in the shape of a puppy:

This Friday

Just a reminder about the reading this Friday at the UAG Gallery. 7pm, Matt Galletta and Margot Malia Lynch. If you’re so inclined, I made a facebook event for it. Now you know it’s important. All the info one last time:

Friday, February 27, 2009 – 7pm
Poetry @ the UAG, with Matt Galletta and Margot Malia Lynch

UAG Gallery
247 Lark Street
Albany NY 12210

PS: Thom Francis, el presidente of Albany Poets, has been getting mighty high-tech as of late. Rumor has it he’ll be broadcasting the reading live over the Interweb. So for those of you who can’t make it, check out http://www.albanypoets.com/video.asp.

Reading at the UAG

The rumors are true. I’ll be reading at the UAG gallery on the last Friday in February, as part of Albany Poets‘ Fridays @ the UAG series. You should come. This isn’t an open-mic, just a reading with two features: me, and Margot Lynch, a woman I don’t think I’ve met before. Here are the details:

Friday, February 27, 2009 – 7pm
Albany Poets Presents: Fridays @ the UAG
Matt Galletta
Margot Lynch

UAG Gallery
247 Lark Street
Albany NY 12210

It should be fun. The UAG is a nice venue for readings. And when it’s over, we can get a drink.

Reading in February…maybe?

It isn’t entirely confirmed, but I possibly have a reading coming up the end of next month. Last I heard, the powers-that-be were still figuring out the schedule and such, but if it all works out I’ll be reading at the UAG in February for the series run jointly by Albany Poets and Jawbone.

If you’ve never been to one of these, you should go. It’s a pretty cool series. No open mic, just two featured poets: usually one “community” poet and one “academic” poet (whatever those words might mean to you). They have it at the Upstate Artists Guild art gallery in downtown Albany, on the second and fourth Fridays of the month.

As I said, this isn’t set in stone, so you didn’t hear it from me (Mary Panza might hurt me). Check back here in a while, or at the Albany Poets website or the UAG website for more information.

But keep your schedule clear for the last Friday in February. You know. Just in case.

Thank you

Thanks to everybody who came out to the reading last night. I had a good time. Hopefully I wasn’t too boring, and didn’t scare too many of the Sienna students that came with their prof.

Also, my apologies to the man I hit in the head when I threw a crumpled up poem out into the audience. I was just being a Radical Poet, and didn’t mean anyone harm.
