Reading this Saturday

just-lemonsI’m headed back to Long Island this Saturday for one last reading as part of that Young Poets project that I got involved in a while back. Live on Long Island? You should come.

It’s the release party for the last chapbook in the series; there will be a reading with that guy and the other “young poets,” me included. All the books will be available, I assume. I’ll bring a bunch of copies of Lemons and see if I can’t pawn off a copy or two.

The reading will be held this Saturday afternoon at Best Bargain Books in Centereach, NY. Here’s the easy-to-digest version of things:

Saturday, July 11, 2008
2 – 4 pm
Best Bargain Books
Walmart Shopping Center
217 Middle Country Road
Centereach, NY 11720

Should be interesting. At the very least, the bookstore is supposed to have pretty good prices (with a name like that it had better). Swing by if you can.

Also, at the last reading at Suffolk a few months ago, I cursed in a few poems and got the feeling it wasn’t too appreciated. I’ll try to clean up my act this time around.

Lemons

lemonsI’ve got a new little chapbook of poems out now. It’s called Lemons. Eighteen poems, some of them not so shabby. The back cover has a picture of me in a tuxedo. I consider this a major selling point.

It was published by Writers Ink Press, run by David B. Axelrod, the current Suffolk County Poet Laureate. As Poet Laureate, Axelrod started the Young Poets Series of chapbooks, a project that sought out and published the work of writers under 25 or so. Lemons is #5 in the series of, so far, nine. Collect ‘em all!

The book is currently for sale on amazon. However, I have a box full of these things, so if you’re interested, just shoot me an email and I’ll get one to you.

A reading and a new book

Next week I’m headed down to Long Island to go to my alma mater, good ol’ Suffolk Community College, for a reading. I’ll be one of four featured readers. The event’s being hosted by the school and David Axelrod, the Suffolk County Poet Laureate. The details are as such:

Wednesday, April 1, 2009 – 6pm

Mildred Green Room
Babylon Student Center
Suffolk County Community College
533 College Road
Selden, NY 11784

The reading is a celebration of four former Suffolk students who have recently had a poetry chapbook published in conjunction with Axelrod’s “young poets” program. I’m one of these supposed “young poets.” My chapbook’s called Lemons. I’ll talk more about the book later, as I haven’t even seen the thing yet.

If you’re in the area, stop by.

I moved

I’m back after a several month lapse of updates. My excuse: I’ve moved from Long Island to Albany. What I learned: I own too many things. Heavy things in particular. Albany seems pretty fun so far. If you happen to live in Albany and know of interesting things happening, let me know.
Anyway, I have new stuff up now. A couple poems, and a new (at least, new to you) section from that novella I was talking about last time. This particular section doesn’t have a name, but it’s the first chapter from the novella. The whole thing’s called “Weekend Campers.” I finished writing it a while ago, but I’m still playing around with the project and getting feedback from people. I expect to be completely finished with it by January of 2084.
Oh, and John bought expensive website-building software and updated his site. Go check it out. The link’s on the “Other” section of this site.
