Tree Killer Ink is here

A while ago, I told you I was expecting two poems in an issue of Tree Killer Ink, the print zine put out by Epic Rites Press. Well, the issue has arrived at my doorstep, and it’s a good one.

Besides my two pieces (“Campaign Season” and “My Struggle”), there’s a lot to like in this issue. Poems, prose, and photography, including great pieces from guys like RL Raymond and John Yamrus. It’s worth taking a look.

Happy new year

Like last year and the year before, I’m taking a moment to review what happened in 2011. As I’ve done previously, I’m breaking this down by the numbers. Really, this is more for me than anyone else, so feel free to move on if you’d like.

Anyway, in the past year:

  • I read 68 books – according to my LibraryThing account.
  • I brewed 55 gallons of beer – that’s 11 batches, one of which I brewed with my own homegrown hops!
  • I saw 15 poems published.
  • I saw 3 stories published.
  • I adopted 0 new cats.
  • I, um, fathered 1 new human child.

So… A veritable butt-ton of poems and fiction pieces published, way more than in previous years. That’s a good thing, I need to keep that up. A slight drop in the amount of beer brewed compared to 2010, but still more than 2009. Interestingly, the exact same number of books read as in 2010, and that isn’t even counting the endless repetitions of Bear Snores On for that above-mentioned child. Speaking of which, a sharp increase in the “new human child” category compared to last year, though status quo was maintained in the cats department.

It’s been a productive year. 2012 should be as well (though I hope not in terms of cats or children). I’ve already got a handful of poems coming out in the near future, so you should check back soon to hear about those. That is, unless you hate my writing. Though if you do, I have to ask, why are you here?

Red Fez Redux

Two poems of mine just went up today on Red Fez, one of my favorite lit sites.

The poems are “In the Garage” and “Paradise Pub.”  Yes, the title of the first one is a Weezer reference, and yes, the second one is about my beloved South Troy neighborhood.

Stop wishing you had a sweet fez like Audrey and go read both poems!

*

Speaking of the Fez: These pieces come about a year after my poem “Stockholm Syndrome” appeared there. I recently discovered that it’s one of the most popular poems on the site, based on page visits (1142 hits as of this writing). I think that’s pretty cool, and I think it means you should read it again too.

Tree Killer Ink

I’ve gotten word that I’ll have a couple poems in an upcoming issue of Tree Killer Ink, the monthly print magazine put out by Epic Rites Press.

I’m not sure whether they sell individual issues of Tree Killer Ink, but your best bet anyway is buying a year’s subscription. It may seem pricey at first, but realize we’re talking about 12 issues plus a whole slew of freebies they’re throwing in.

Just in case you’re on the fence, let me try to sweeten the deal further. Remember the Babel pamphlet I was in earlier this month? PigeonBike was kind enough to give me a few extra copies, so I thought I’d make this offer: the first three people who email me with their receipt for a subscription to TKI, I’ll mail you a copy of Babel. Totally gratis. I’ll even sign the page my poem appears on.

Sound good? Good. I’ll let you know when the issue my stuff is in drops.

The pamphlet of Babel

I’ve got a new poem coming out in a print publication from our friends over at PigeonBike.

It’s called Babel’s got nothing on AM radio (title from a poem by Tom Riordan) and features my poem “Provisions” along with work from silent lotus, Michael Andrew, Lawrence Gladeview, RL Raymond, Frankie Metro, and Jack Cooper.

It’s a 16-pager, so whether you want to call it a pamphlet or a chapbook is up to you, but it’s cheap! Four bucks for anybody in the US. At that rate, you can afford two.

There’s a limited print run of 100, and PigeonBike tends to sell out quickly (the “Broken Bridge” issue I was in this summer sold out already), so get yours today!

Walt Witbier

Please excuse this interruption from my writing-related nonsense for some beer-related nonsense.

The Southern Vermont Homebrew Festival is coming up later this month, and I will again be bringing one of my own beers.

Last year saw the public debut of Joyce Carol Oatmeal Stout (the sign for which featured a rarely-seen photo of Joyce Carol Oates wearing a beer helmet). This year I’ll be honoring another writer with Walt Witbier, a Belgian-style white ale.

Full details on the festival are available here. If you can make it, you should come by. Last year was pretty fun.

In any event, I thought I’d share the sign I’ll have at the fest.

MediaVirus Magazine #25

Three new poems of mine just went up today on MediaVirus Magazine, a really great underground lit zine. Check it out now, as the issue will only be up during the month of August.

I’ve got the added distinction of being featured as the “Editors’ Pick” for this issue. According to them, “Matt Galletta offers a wink and a nudge with his sly self deprecation.” Pretty cool, eh?

The three pieces are: “Diner,” “Who Loves the Sun?,” and “MG’s 115th Dream.”

Bonus points if the title of the second one made you think of the Velvet Underground song, and double-bonus if the third one made you think of the Bob Dylan song.
